How Crypto Traders & Investors Can Benefit from FAST-DS 2026

FAST-DS 2026 can be particularly relevant for Indian crypto traders and investors holding undisclosed foreign crypto assets or accounts. It may help eligible taxpayers regularise certain foreign assets, such as:

  • Crypto held on foreign exchanges or offshore wallets/accounts.
  • Foreign crypto investments acquired from income already taxed in India.
  • Crypto assets acquired while the taxpayer was non-resident in India but not disclosed after becoming resident.
  • Foreign income or gains that were inadvertently not disclosed, subject to the scheme's eligibility conditions.

For qualifying Category 2 cases, assets up to ₹5 crore may potentially be regularised for a ₹1 lakh fee, rather than the much higher tax applicable to Category 1.

Important: FAST-DS does not automatically apply to all offshore crypto holdings. The source of funds, residential status, exchange/wallet records, previous ITR disclosures and tax treatment must be examined to determine eligibility.
